Choosy Kids Club
The Choosy Kids Club at West Virginia University is an after-school program for elementary school children from a tri county area. The Club House is staffed by WVU students. Active lifestyles based on healthy decisions is the theme of the program, and Choosy is the featured mascot. In fact, Choosy is the ambassador of children?s fitness in West Virginia.
Choosy is very particular about nutrition, physical activity, and remaining tobacco and drug free. As a role model, Choosy sets a good example for grownups and children. The message is simple: children should develop by choice not by chance.
Lifetime Activities Program
The Lifetime Activities Program is a community-based, service-oriented program operated by the School of Physical Education. A variety of children’s classes include: gymnastics (beginning through advanced), learn to swim, swim lessons, martial arts, dance, the Choosy Kids Club,and KinderSkills.
KinderSkills is a program for children three to five years of age. Parents learn how to teach and work with their children to help them learn basic skills, such as throwing, catching, balance, basic rhythm, and coordination skills. Future Fit is an after-school program providing a variety of fitness activities for children which teaches them basic health and nutrition information for healthy lifestyles.
West Virginia Motor Development Center
The WV Motor Development Center is a comprehensive program devoted to improving the quality of life of West Virginians by promoting movement skills and physical activity for individuals of all ages and abilities. The MDC, located at West Virginia University, currently offers activity programs for babies, toddlers, preschool, and elementary school-age children.
The WV Motor Development Center is a joint program at West Virginia University sponsored by the School of Physical Education and the West Virginia University Center for Excellence in Disabilities, a part of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center.
